100 Nights of Reading!

Last week we did a huge review of the long vowel spellings and patterns for each vowel. For grade two I would now expect students to use some sort of long vowel spelling for all long vowels. For example if they were spelling drain, if they spelled it with a silent e (drane) although not spelled correctly, I know that they have heard the long a sound and used a long a spelling. With time and exposure to the word visually many times, they will remember that it is a long a spelling ai. If they are spelling it dran that would not be meeting spelling outcomes for this grade.

Spelling - This week we are studying the ou and ow sounds and word families that use this sound.

17m was the first person in the class to get 100 nights of reading. Mrs. H. took her picture at the time but forgot to put it on the blog.

Two Hard Working Kids!

Spelling Jan. 11 and Other News

Spelling this week is based on basic sight words. As you can see there are a few sets of homonyms involved so students will have to know when to use the appropriate spelling.

Group 1-want have are our was your said because

Thanks to Mr. Birnie and Mrs. Hollinger for coming on our trip to Wascana Marsh. The wind was a bit cool near the end of the trip but all in all it was a great trip. Man that snow was deep! Many of the children did use their spare gloves, mitts and socks. A few kids stepped out of their boots into the snow so we changed their socks to dry ones which really helped. They really enjoyed the bird sanctuary at the end of the trip.

We have decorated our Valentines boxes. Please send your child's Valentines by Thursday. On Thursday afternoon we will pass out our Valentines, have snacks, and then open them.

Week of Feb.4

Well it looks like the weather will cooperate with us this week. We will be snowshoeing twice and going on our field trip on Thursday afternoon. Please be sure your child is dressed for being outdoors for an extended length of time.
